NJ-SYFL Parents & Coaches
This year, for the first time, we started an offshoot "scrimmage game" environment, called The Freedom Conference, played on Tuesday Nights during the regular season. This was done for the players that, due to large rosters, are relegated by the Minimum Play Rule, or MPR (4-6 plays per game, minimum, depending on roster size), during the 8 regular season games.
The MPR, while preventing players from receiving no playing time, does falls short of providing adequate playing time, for new players to grow and improve. If a child plays only 4 ppg, then that's "just" 32 plays, over the 8 game season. The other players, "not relegated" to the minimum, are getting hundreds of plays, over the course of a season.
This is a far cry from a program that believes “it’s for the kids”…
If a child plays “just” 4 ppg, then this "scrimmage game" format is the solution to the limited playing time problem. This "scrimmage game" format provides extra developmental playing time for these players, and insures they grow into strong, knowledgeable football players, that are prepared to play football at the next level. Participating in these "scrimmage games" can result in these players getting, on average, more time than a starter player. Contact your league representative, and inquire about your child's participation in The Freedom Conference....TODAY.
